What the app does with your data

Commute now BE is made by nys.studio in Belgium. This page describes exactly what the app handles, in plain terms. The short version is that the app has no backend: there is no server of ours for your data to sit on, no account to create, and nothing to log in to.

What stays on your phone

Your commutes, the places in them, and your settings are stored on your device only. Your TomTom API key is held in the iPhone Keychain. None of it is transmitted to nys.studio, because we operate no service that could receive it.

Location

If you allow it, the app reads your current location to work out where you are starting from and whether you are already at one of your stations. Location is used while you are using the app. It is not tracked in the background, not stored as a history, and not linked to any identity.

To calculate a driving time, the app sends the start and end coordinates of that journey to TomTom. That is a request for a route, and it is the only circumstance in which your location leaves the device.

The two services the app talks to

  • TomTom receives journey coordinates and a departure time so it can return a traffic-aware driving time. It is reached with the API key you supply, under your own TomTom account. See the TomTom privacy statement.
  • iRail receives station names and times so it can return departures, delays and platforms. It does not receive your location. iRail is an open data service run by iRail vzw. See the iRail privacy statement.

Both are contacted directly by the app over HTTPS. Nothing is routed through us in between.

What the app does not do

  • No account, no sign-up, no email address collected.
  • No analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no third-party trackers.
  • No profiles, no advertising identifiers, no data sold or shared.
  • No background location.

Files you export

The app can write a commute to a .commute file so you can keep it or send it to someone. That file is created only when you ask for it, it goes wherever you send it, and it contains your commute setup. It does not contain your TomTom key.

Keeping and deleting

We keep nothing, so there is nothing for us to delete. Removing the app from your phone removes the commutes and the stored key with it. You can also remove the key on its own from Settings inside the app.

Children

The app is a commuting tool for adults. It is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
